Q to the design freelancers crowd:
If you're using credit-based genAI tools (e.g. to create an illustration prompt + system that a client can run themselves), do you bill your clients for the credits spent?
context: I'm setting up an illustration generator in @floraai for header images for a mobile app. It burns a lot of credits in the exploration and setup phase, but will also cost credits in the future anytime me or the client generates new images.
Unlike a flat Adobe CC, Figma, or Framer subscription, that cost can fluctuate a lot, and I'm wondering how to include it in my pricing.
Do you:
→ Absorb it as overhead?
→ Pass credits through at cost?
→ Bake a buffer into your project fee?
→ Let the client buy the tokens and invite you to their workspace?
→ Something else?
