A funny thing about expertise is that it really makes you admire people who are playing the game, even if they aren't as accomplished, cool, or more importantly, on-trend. People running companies with a billion $ of revenue truly, deeply respect that startup that clawed its way to $10m ARR. The girl who can play Cliffs of Dover perfectly on the guitar is plainly, unreservedly encouraging when you learn how to play some power chords. The guy who can lift the most is rooting the hardest for the fat guy who's in the gym for the first time on Jan 1. I think about this a LOT when I see someone crapping on other people, in any arena. Experts simply aren't the ones shitting on other people who are actually in the game, because they remember when they were there too.
