Hallie Marie Tobler, 22, daughter of Republican Minnesota gubernatorial candidate Jeff Johnson, was found stabbed to death in her St. Cloud apartment on Saturday, February 7, 2026. Police responded to a medical emergency call around 8:15–8:20 p.m., discovering her with multiple stab wounds in the locked unit. Her husband, Dylan Michael Tobler, 23, was at the scene with self-inflicted stab wounds. He was hospitalized in stable condition, taken into custody, released from the hospital, and booked into Stearns County Jail. Authorities charged him with second-degree murder on February 10, 2026. Court records show Dylan pleaded guilty in January 2026 to disorderly conduct (petty misdemeanor) stemming from a June 2025 incident involving choking Hallie. Jeff Johnson, a former St. Cloud city councilman who launched his 2026 gubernatorial bid in March 2025, has suspended his campaign following the tragedy.
