OpenAI will always own the majority of the market share, no matter how good Claude gets, even if its product is technically inferior. I pay for the Pro Max plan on Claude and the Pro plan on GPT. I would never upgrade GPT to the higher plan, but I’m glad paying 5x more for Claude. Claude has a better product than GPT, but it’ll be close to impossible dethroning OpenAI from the #1 spot. In marketing, whoever is first to mind remains the dominant player. Just like Google was first to mind for search, ChatGPT will be first to mind for AI companions. It’s the first AI almost everyone on earth has interacted with, and it will remain first. Claude is a close second contender, but second is first loser in markets. Coca-Cola vs Pepsi. McDonald’s vs Burger King. Apple vs Samsung. No matter how good the product of #2 is, once someone takes and cements the #1 spot, it’s almost impossible to dethrone them. Claude is a game changer for AI power users, but most of the world isn’t that. That is the harsh law of marketing. #1 often isn’t first because they have the better product. It’s because they were first to seize the #1 spot.
