I don't love to throw around the term "narrative violation" but I think this definitely qualifies:
A 2024 analysis by the highly respected economist Gabriel Zucman finds that the U.S. has much lower avg income taxes on the poor and meaningfully higher income taxes on the rich, than countries in western Europe.
Put differently, if the U.S. became "more like Europe," the poor would pay MUCH higher income and consumption taxes and billionaires would ... well ... still basically get away with murder.
