Despite this thread being 3.5 years old, it still comes up pretty much every time I'm talking to ML people about business schools. The reputational damage it has done is genuinely immeasurable.

If I ever shared how abusive & toxic my experience of the business technologies group at Tepper was, the group would cease to exist. It still rattles me every day. I couldn’t even share my joy when I escaped from that hellhole. Too traumatic to acknowledge I ever worked there.
I don't have the same experience as Zach, but as someone who interviewed at a variety of departments (CS, ECE, Stats, OR, DS), the roles are not interchangeable. Try to understand expectations and, importantly, what your identity will be over your career.
