Tom Lee: Historic Deleveraging Drove Crypto's Decoupling from Gold
Tom Lee, Chairman of Bitmine, said in an interview on January 20, that crypto assets had continued to outperform gold prior to October last year, but the largest deleveraging event in crypto history occurred on October 10. The event severely damaged the market-making system, leading to sharp drawdowns in Bitcoin and Ethereum and causing crypto to decouple from gold. He noted that Bitcoin remains digital gold, but the adoption path for crypto will be highly volatile, with 2026 potentially serving as a key validation year.
