American leftists have a romanticized idea of Latin American unity that does not exist. Latinos have a lot of negative bias towards each other, even when they are from the same country. Example: Ask a Guatemalan how they feel about the Mexican saying, "de Guatemala a guatepeor." (It's a play on words since "mala" in Spanish is bad and "peor" is worse, so "from bad to worse" but using Guatemalans.) Obviously not everyone feels this way, but American Leftists demand American Latinos to have solidarity with "their own people" and have greater loyalty to other countries where they do not live all because we are similar shades of brown.
