I saw a big news before bed:
Foreign media reported that Apple spent nearly $2 billion to acquire an Israeli AI audio company 🤯
This is also known as Apple's second-largest acquisition in history (second only to the 2014 acquisition of Beats), but Apple has not publicly disclosed the price.
This product is very interesting, with the selling point of "speaking silently":
It captures tiny movements of facial skin and muscles through optical sensors, allowing it to infer what you are saying even when you are almost silent, or just mouthing words or speaking very softly, thus achieving "silent communication with devices."
The motivation is clear: Apple wants to seize the interactive entry point for wearable AI devices.
Because voice is not useful in many scenarios (noisy environments, privacy concerns, social awkwardness, not wanting to disturb others), but if AirPods, Vision Pro, and glasses-type devices can support more discreet input, the experience will be greatly upgraded.
Moreover, Apple's AI is currently struggling, facing competition from major AI companies like Meta, Google, and OpenAI from another direction, and now it can leverage its hardware advantages to support AI.
