Talked to a friend after some time and was told that some of my older dashboards are too descriptive and observation-based. “X has risen by n%,” “These are the top n users,” etc. I’ve known for a long time that this kind of thing isn’t really insight.
To me, real insights explain a “why,” the implications, and the next steps. They’re always connected to a goal or an action. That’s also why I’m pretty insistent on producing work that actually serves someone or something, instead of just describing what’s going on.
When you do that, the work starts to look like a tool (like the Morpho Optimizer) instead of yet another Morpho dashboard. It’s not amazing for the job search portfolio but I honestly just hate making another TVL chart.
Right now, I’m a bit uninspired, in a kind of writer’s block but for data. For a while, I’ve been curious about how Morpho thinks about BD and growth: what decisions they’re trying to make, what data they look at, and which trends they care about targeting. Maybe I should just reach out to see if there’s a fun personal project where I can try out new techniques that could be reused by other curators or anyone who wants to integrate with them.
The catch is that it’s pretty tricky to think of good data tools if you’re not actually in that circle. If you don’t understand the real problem space and who needs what, you’re mostly guessing at solutions.
