Most of the conversation around the Invest America Trump Accounts has been focused on the economic return available to those who participate. Estimates show the $1,000 provided by the government could grow into as much as $500,000 by the time of retirement for the account holders. If a family maxes out the annual contribution to the account, the amount could grow into more than $1 million much earlier in someone’s life. But the more important aspect in my opinion is that these accounts introduce millions of people to the idea of owning a piece of the American economy. Quite literally, the accounts give every person a stake in the capitalist system. The economic return is nice, but the increased social cohesion and codified belief in capitalism will likely have a much more profound impact on the United States. We already see the rise of socialism from young people who feel left behind by the system. No one has taken the time to explain to these young people that they are being left behind because they save their money, rather than invest it. Rather than trying to overhaul the education system, or convince young adults to change their mind, the Invest America Trump Accounts indoctrinate the next generation with the benefits of what made our country and our economy the greatest ever constructed. Help people make money and you give them freedom. A lesson as old as time.
