On Wednesday, the Future USS John F. Kennedy (CVN-79), the second Gerald R. Ford-class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier built for the U.S. Navy, departed from Newport News Shipbuilding in Virginia for her first series of builder sea trials by Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII). While this is a major milestone for the Kennedy, which has been under construction now for over a decade, there is still much work to be done, with the ship expected to be delivered to the Navy sometime in 2027.
