Elon Musk made an important point about building a Tesla Terafab: Geopolitical Risks. “Even when we look at the best case output out of all our key suppliers (Samsung, TSMC, Micron) — it’s not enough. In order to remove the probable constraint in 3-4 years, we’re going to have to build a very big Tesla Terafab that includes logic memory and packaging, domestically. That’s going to be very important to insure we’re protected against any geopolitical risks— I think people may be underweighting some of the geopolitical risks that are going to be a major factor in a few years.”
