BORING NEWS: TBC (@boringcompany) is conducting early-stage feasibility studies for a potential underground tunnel system connecting Reno to Giga Nevada, beneath a nine-mile stretch of Interstate 80. The study was funded by a $50,000 payment from the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN) in October that involves conceptual designs and a feasibility report to address severe traffic congestion. The area serves approximately 22,000 daily commuters, including nearly 8,000 Tesla employees and over 4,000 from Panasonic. Tesla and Panasonic have also engaged with the Nevada Governor’s Office on transportation alternatives, including a separate commuter rail study using existing freight lines. No details have been disclosed on tunnel specifics, location, total costs, completion timeline, or whether it will be a Tesla LOOP system. Of note, this is a 9 mile section study. It is roughly 20 miles from Reno to Giga Nevada.
