I would add to this that in the drug legalization debate it is fairly obvious that upper class people just want to be able to smoke pot in their garage or do a line of coke without fear of arrest, and then justify their personal desires by constantly talking about ‘victimless crimes’ and ‘over incarceration.’ I don’t think many (maybe most) give a damn about the downtrodden, and certainly don’t think about the negative consequences that legalization would have for the people who cannot handle pot or other drugs recreationally.
