60–30–10 Ratio.
Interior designers get this instinctively:
One color carries the room.
One supports.
One interrupts.
Brands + UI folks keep skipping this and then wonder why everything feels loud or flat.
same palette, different ratios → entirely different mood.
How to apply it in brand systems?
Assign ratio to each colour.
– 60% dominant color
This sets the base mood. Backgrounds, large surfaces, most screens.
– 30% secondary color
Supports hierarchy. Present in sections, cards, secondary UI, illustrations.
– 10% accent color
For emphasis only. CTAs, highlights, moments of contrast.
