China announced 5% GDP growth for 2025. Western based media was wrong. Same story, year after year. The West predictably underestimates China. Throughout the year, as China smashed Western guesswork, Goldman and others gradually raised their guesses until they roughly matched China's planned economic outcomes. The takeaway is that Chinese economists, based in Beijing, understand China's economy far better that folks in New York and London. Goldman Sachs early 2025 prediction was 4% GDP growth owing to Trump's Tariffs on the world. Yesterday, the official figures confirmed 5% GDP growth in China in 2025. For the doubters and haters, I highly recommend an article put out by the US Federal Reserve on June 6th 2025 entitled "Is China Really Growing at 5 Percent?" referring to 2024, in which the Fed concluded that "our analysis suggests that official figures have not recently been overstating GDP growth." Headlines in the West have read "slowing" and "falter" for years. But this year, China's GDP grew by a solid 5%, and last year (2024), GDP grew by 4.95%. Will headlines in the West now read "GDP growing steadily"? No. But they ought to. Facts.
