Former NFL quarterback Brett Favre and a slew of his cronies were busted in 2024 for embezzling $100 million in public funds from the federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program so they could build themselves a fancy new stadium, among other things. The Biden administration levied a $100 million penalty against Mississippi for the scandal. But of course, the Trump administration reversed the decision in April after the Mississippi Department of Human Services said it uncovered new records that could validate *some* of its allegedly improper spending. They rescinded the penalty and told the state it would “issue a new penalty letter at the appropriate time.” No new letter has been sent. Donald Trump has frozen childcare funds to blue states over allegations of welfare fraud and deployed his goons to Minnesota after a right-wing YouTuber concocted a fake news conspiracy about fraudulent daycares — now a woman is dead and countless more people have been beaten, pepper-sprayed, or otherwise brutalized, all over performative outrage about “fraud.” But the alleged perpetrators were Black. When the perpetrators are white, Trump has made it clear that he couldn’t care less how much public money they steal. After all, he’s making a fortune doing it himself.
