NEW: Stephen Spencer Pittman, 19, was charged Monday with maliciously damaging or destroying a building by means of fire or an explosive for setting fire to the only synagogue in Jackson, Mississippi on Saturday, targeting it because of its “Jewish ties.” Pittman allegedly laughed about the attack, telling his father “he finally got them” and calling it the “synagogue of Satan.” Beth Israel synagogue in Mississippi is the same synagogue that was firebombed by the KKK in 1967 for its civil rights advocacy.
