how to fix your for you page to be slop-free
i saw a lot of people complaining about their for you pages being horrible viral slop, which was weird, because mine is just my mutuals and broader simcluster. i talked to a couple people and realized i've been doing a couple things that other people don't do, that seem to be necessary to prevent nu-X from turning your page into complete slop.
(X employees: ideally we shouldn't have to do this, come on, fix this... i know the people crave slop but let us ask grok to turn on unc mode or something.)
1. aggressively "not interested" any viral post
once your algo is under control, you only have to do this intermittently, but to start it's good to do it deliberately. scroll through your FYP and, for any post over 5k likes or that smells viral, click … > not interested in this post > this post isn't relevant.
(if you specifically dislike the poster, you can use "show less from this person," which iirc also downranks them in the algorithm for other people.)
after doing this 10-20 times, refresh to get a new crop of posts and do it again. repeat 3-5 times, and it should immediately improve, but you may need to repeat again in a day or so.
2. uncheck all the slop interests in your personalization data
Settings > Privacy and Safety > Ads Preferences > Interests
there's a ton of slop "interests" here. uncheck them. (even for things you are interested in - they don't help.) despite the path to reach this page, afaik these "interests" still play some role in post recommendations, not just ads.
(X employees: are these still relevant? and if so, can you either add a button to turn them all off at once, or even better, delete this feature entirely)
3. use lists for small accounts you like
this does seem to be a genuine algo change - it's harder for small accounts to reach your page unless you directly interact often, which can cause a feedback loop if you don't interact for a bit and then can't bootstrap the interactions back up because you're not seeing their posts. i recommend making a list of accounts you like, especially small accounts, and checking it occasionally to see if there's anyone on there you haven't seen in awhile.
(X employees: please fix this, i shouldn't need to have post notifications on or manually curate lists to see small accounts i follow. like put some minimum value on our interaction score so i see one post of theirs every few days, at least.)

example of the slop interests. i'm not interested in Supernatural at all, much less three times over

@shwheals @nearcyan on mobile it might be in a ... menu, can't remember
@medjedowo i will pester every member of the simcluster to do this until we have good simcluster again if need be
