One of the greatest qualities of the early-mid 1990s was that amidst all the pre-Internet poverty of choices, you would occasionally get stuff like this on cable TV. People forget how completely isolated you would be unless you were in a top tier metro with a sufficient density of creative people. Want an unusual movie? Tough luck. Want a specific book? I hope it's available at Walden Books. Read about an album in Melody Maker? Be prepared to look through crates of records. I remember talking with this artsy girl at school whose father had been a well-connected artist and just writing down films in a notebook that she recommended or knew about. I would then look for them later and might only find something years later when visiting a place like Kim's Video in NYC while visitiing friends. Now everything is available to everyone but art has become less important in a real way.
