Peacocks kill turkeys in fights. This isn’t because turkeys are weaker. It’s because when a turkey decides to stop fighting, it lays down and extends its neck in submission. This signals to its opponent that the fight’s over. But peacocks don’t understand the signal, so they keep pecking. The turkey, hurt and upset, extends its neck even further, expecting the peacock to stop. But it doesn’t.
