For years, I've been thinking about the ways tech can be used to improve how people learn. Everyone seems to agree there's untapped potential for better learning tools, which the internet has, for the most part, failed to give us. So the seed that became Oboe has been there for a very long time. Early visions for the product were all based on knowledge graphs and pre-defined learning hierarchies. But in 2022, when LLMs took off, I thought, "Well, there goes my idea." I can't/shouldn't build this anymore. Except after digging in, I realized the exact opposite was true. For the first time ever, we have the ability to achieve the grand vision of letting anyone on earth learn anything they want more effectively and efficiently than ever before. So I thought yolo (or as we say at Oboe: yoboe). Now's the time. Let's rock and roll.
