Fantasy thinking is proliferating. Not just politically, places like crypto are saturated with it too. Disembodied people espousing disembodied beliefs. If it makes sense in their head, then it’s ‘true’. No external validation required. Empiricism reduced to an “umm can we not?” vibe. Why operate in the body’s bounded constraints when you can frolic in the mind’s limitless dreams! They live inside their own heads and screens. I call them Thing-Sayers: people who believe reality can be summoned by assertion. You can just Say A Thing. Believe it hard enough. Now it’s real. Magical thinking. Symbols citing symbols to prove the validity of symbols. Minds looping internally without exit condition. Cathartically stacking definitions on top of each other until it feels toasty. Pure chaos. A fantasy is what only resides inside the mind. If it’s real, it moves. If it moves, it faces constraint. Magical thinking fairs poorly when confronted by constraint’s weight. Imagination limits one; gravity limits the other.
