Of course burning low-CI oil is more polluting than not burning oil. My point is that domestic supply constricts is a very weak lever for impacting global oil consumption — just ceding market share to Russia is bad economics, bad foreign policy, and dubious climate policy.

Unfortunately, we are operating in an ecosystem where Democrats working in the national security space or the general economic policy space won’t want to raise these points because angering the climate groups would get them in trouble — but it’s just clearly true.
