just realized something curious about Middle Earth, which is that there's no religion.
i realize this isn't literally true, there are the morgoth cults that pop up occasionally. but these are exceptions. instead there are:
* elves, who have or had direct contact with the valar, who don't need "faith," gods are an established fact
* antiquarian weirdos like dunedain and the baggins clan who have knowledge of them via ancestry or elves
* dwarves doing their thing and not talking about it
* everyone else
and the everyone else is what's wild right
you'd think people with zero knowledge of theology or cosmology would at least wonder what was going on! but nothing
and across all of these groups, normie or wise, there are no churches, no priests, no myths, no worship aside from reverence.
