Ilya Sutskever, the AI researcher and perhaps top AI researcher period who played a central role in developing ChatGPT, now bets that new fundamental breakthroughs are still needed to unravel the mystery of intelligence.
Read the new @bismarckanlys Brief (link below):

Alongside Nobel Prize winner Geoffrey Hinton, Sutskever was one of the three key people who published a 2012 paper on neural networks that advanced the state of the art.
Sutskever also worked on DeepMind's AlphaGo and has long been a proponent of so-called "scaling laws."

Sutskever was basically proven right, and has had a hand in multiple AI breakthroughs across multiple organizations in the last decade.
But, since 2024, Sutskever has left OpenAI, founded his own startup, said more research is needed, and disclaims any product releases.

Despite this apparently profound shift in thinking, it is rather par for the course for an archetypal scientist who is concerned only with unraveling the mysteries of the universe.
Should we expect the next great breakthrough to come from Sutskever and his team?
