< @zama – A confidential token has been officially adopted as a standard on Ethereum > A significant milestone has been reached in on-chain privacy. The Confidential Token Standard has been registered as an official EIP on Ethereum, elevating confidential tokens to a native building block of Ethereum. The fact that it has reached the stage of being discussed as a standard is highly significant. This standard is designed to allow for normal transfers, validations, and combinations on-chain without disclosing the token balances and transfer amounts. In other words, it enables the retention of existing use cases like DeFi, payments, and settlements without sacrificing privacy. This marks a change in the perception that security and practical use are mutually exclusive. The importance of this trend is clear. Privacy is now beginning to be considered a fundamental feature that Ethereum itself accepts. It seems we can view this as a signal that on-chain finance, where privacy is the default, is getting closer to reality.
