People love talking about strategy and synergy, but hostile deals are driven by one force, greed. Shareholders will take the highest price, and regulators will sort out the rest. Netflix doesn’t want CNN. Ellison wants to pay more cash. Someone’s going to win, and someone’s going to walk away a hero to their shareholders. If I’m investing, I want two things: the highest price and all cash. Stock deals? Not interested. And trust me, before this ends, somebody will put an all-cash bid on the table.
