I’ve been digging into @HerbertRSim, one of the earliest and loudest Bitcoin adopters and found something pretty wild.
On his own website, there’s a blog post from years ago featuring concept art he personally worked on:
“The Blade of Bitcoin” a massive greatsword wielded by a knight he calls the Slayer of Shitcoins.
What’s crazy is the date attached to the sketch.
He says he drew this character back in 2011.
Think about that for a second:
- In 2011 Bitcoin was still obscure ( check image below, red circle is when this post was published )
- Almost no one was talking about altcoins
- The term “shitcoin” wasn’t a mainstream insult
- Ethereum didn’t even exist yet
- The entire memecoin culture was years away from becoming what it is today
Yet his artwork already depicts a full-on Bitcoin paladin, carrying a holy blade designed specifically to slay shitcoins — long before the crypto industry actually became flooded with them.
It’s almost prophetic.
Seeing someone conceptualize “shitcoin slaying” over a decade ago, before the word even had cultural weight, is kind of insane.
