【Save this!】 A diagram of the 10 genres of Save the Cat 🐱
Let's use story structures to generate scripts infinitely! (I've compiled all posts into a tree for easy reference)
As video generation technology advances, the importance of "screenwriting skills" is clearly increasing.
If you're thinking, "I want to create a horror story" or "I want to make a story with a landmine-type character," having knowledge of "story structures" is incredibly helpful for thinking more about the structure of the story.
I've summarized posts that explain diagrams that clarify this area along with specific examples for easier viewing later!
🎬 Just knowing one structure should allow you to come up with dozens of script ideas.
Because if you take the same structure and say, "Let's do this in a Meiji-era stylish way" or "in a serious steampunk style," you'll quickly have a ton of ideas.
🎬 Conversely, if you feel like the story you're currently creating is "somehow lacking..."
You can simply ask, "What genre does this story fit into according to Save the Cat?" Then, if you follow up with, "What elements are missing for that genre?" you'll uncover the lacking elements.
For example...
Monster in the House: Are you properly writing about "the reality of being trapped," "the terror of the monster," and "the depth of sin"?
In a story within a system, are you properly writing about the "sacrifice" dedicated to supporting that crazy system?
Are you focusing only on locked-room tricks without digging into the motives in a Whydunit (why it happened)?
You should start to see various things that are lacking.
Of course, there are many other screenwriting techniques, but Save the Cat is foundational knowledge that you won't regret having!
