In today’s @nytopinion Ezra Klein argues that we need legislative solutions to curb usage of algorithm backed social media because of the damage it does to our character. He argues that antitrust law isn’t fit for purpose to this end but I would in part disagree, because of the reality of concentrated power. Regulating the accumulation of corporate power through pro-competition enforcement limits the ability of a monopoly to control outcomes in government. In other words Meta will have an easier time spiking legislation to limit is product than if there were 5 or 10 or 20 competitors in the space.
