Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey on the Minnesota fraud case: "The fraud that occurred was real…They were stealing money from kids…When that happens, you prosecute, you charge, you hold the person accountable, and they go to jail — as individuals. They go to jail as individuals because in America you rise based on your own merit, and fall based on your own flaws — entire communities, of Somalis or any other community, should not be held accountable. I'm Jewish, but when Bernie Madoff got in trouble for financial crimes, no one held me accountable for that. Ted Kaczynski, the Unabomber, was Polish — but nobody held all the Polish people accountable for what he did. In America, you have freedom of choice. You make decisions. When those decisions are against the law, you get held accountable as an individual. The whole community, however, does not."
