There's a lot of hype around this Treasury buyback... But here's why we're not excited: The current U.S. debt sits at $38T. Yes, trillion. This buyback is around $12.5B. That's approximately 0.03% of their total debt. To fully offset the debt at this pace, the Treasury would need to repeat this buyback over 3,000 times. In other words: Small buybacks don’t fix massive spending problems. The U.S. debt issue is still very, very real.
