[Breaking News] "President Lee, tax on overseas stock investors?"... Police launch investigation into 'false statement'
The police have launched an investigation related to the spread of a fake public address impersonating President Lee Jae-myung.
The National Investigation Agency announced yesterday (27th) that "a post claiming to be from the president regarding 'increased capital gains tax on overseas stocks and the establishment of a holding tax' is being circulated online and elsewhere."
The investigation is a preliminary procedure conducted before a full-scale investigation, and this case will be handled by the Cyber Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.
The National Investigation Agency stated, "This is a serious criminal act that could cause significant confusion regarding government policies due to the false content impersonating the president," and added, "We will trace the distribution and take strict action according to the law."
