Flexport had 38 containers on the ONE Henry Hudson container ship that caught fire in LA port today. 26 of them were already discharged and 12 still on board. We are working on recovery and communication plans with each of the customers. Thank you to the brave firefighters putting out the fire in very hazardous conditions this morning.
Here is what we know... At about 7:00 PM (Pacific Time) on 11/21 the LAFD called out report of a vessel fire at the Yusen Terminal, Port of Los Angeles At about 8:00 the incident was upgraded to a "Major Emergency"Due to hazmat on the ship (normal) a shelter in place was ordered at about midnight and lifted at about 6:30 am. All 23 crew were reported safe and the fire "Substantially Contained" per the Port of LAThe vessel has been towed out to anchorage to continue fire suppression without danger to port infrastructure. We do not have a timeline on salvage or recovery and would not expect one until next week. We do not have status of the containers onboard and will need to verify their location. We do not expect ONE to issue any statements or guidance until Monday.
