You ever wonder why Metacritic press scores are always skewed higher than players? It's the system of incentives. To get a review out on day one, you need early access. To get early access, you have to have a good relationship with a publisher. How do you keep that access and relationship going? You emphasize the good parts of games and movies, and maybe you mention a problem or two to not seem biased, but you downplay those if you can. And when the company calls you for help, you tend to give it to them, so you can keep your access. Publishers know this and did it with printed and web press for years. In recent years, they started doing this with youtubers too. Hence the biased score trend higher than player scores, it's baked in.
