At this point China's tech companies are trolling the US Offering an extremely affordable (and capable) coding agent at a fraction of what frontier models cost from US firms is not only disruptive, it also demonstrates that the economics behind companies like Anthropic and OpenAI are deeply inflated. That could be a problem considering neither of these companies actually make a profit. The good news here, however, is the competition is real. The innovation cycle in specialized models and open models is extremely impressive--and it's accelerating. This should spark the next deflationary wave in AI, bringing down costs and encouraging more efficient, specialized models as the baseline. I'm here for it.
