I hate that it’s true, but model cos need to ban emdashes. openai brags their new ai "doesn't sound like ai" yet their old example uses 2 and new one 3. slang gets cringe and dies for decades, ai should be the same. we ruined emdashes, ban them so our kids can love them later

slang died proportional to how much it's used. a billion people are all using the same 5 models constantly, and they mostly all have the same verbal ticks / slang. we should expect the turnover to be unprecedentedly fast and that's good

@DanielleFong i do think at this point you have to explicitly tell the alignment process "emdash is cringe now" and you'll default get like emdash foom bc the default rlhf labelers think - is impressive + now it's in the training data everywhere. but i think telling it it's cringe is doable
