I was recently onboarding a US-based client who wanted to expand to Europe I asked them, “EU has 27 countries, where do you want to expand?” “Everywhere bro” - typical ignorant American response I explained that in each country they’d need to appoint a Data Protection Officer, complete GDPR training, and get certified by the national data authority They asked if this “nonsense “ is really necessary and can’t they just “launch” I clenched my fist but managed to calm myself down and politely hinted that it’s probably best if they just focus on the US market The last thing Europe needs are American cowboy startups running loose and chasing growth without a care for regulation
