Some more predictions: Skillful metamodern masculinity will need to accommodate and enhance women's new socioeconomic power, and master previously feminine social paradigms to place necessary checks on female behavior that corrodes social cohesion. Self strength, storytelling ability and the ability to self-direct coherent, narrative-integrated systems will provide a cohesive existential container for loved ones. Men will not get much aid from community, institutions or external authority. Friendship will be critical. The metamodern man will prioritize attentional control and the emotional skill necessary to use influence, rather than control & dominance, to maintain necessary social cohesion. Household alliances will be among the most important competitive advantages in the atomized age. Strong, healthy families that survived postmodernism will greatly rise in power and stature. Metamodernism isn't feudalism, but it will likely have a lot of historical resonances. Clout is power and can be easily manipulated into existence, so genuine authority will largely derive from genuine nobility. The metamodern man will continue to prize metacognition and individuation, but place more emphasis on strong diplomacy and a capacity for genuine tolerance of difference within his own small, vulnerable sphere of cohesion. Influence will be readily available but power will be frustratingly limited. It's not a perfect analogy, nothing can be, but Jewish masculinity has been doing a lot of this well for centuries. I expect we'll see recapitulation of many of the social dynamics of Renaissance-era Italy, especially among red tribe culture. I expect that men will increasingly abandon blue tribe culture as they fail to effectively reform it. Blue tribe will wane with postmodernism, but maintain institutional power and tight social control over the middle class, and continue to fight the culture war for control of professional and upper class sensemaking. Metamodern femininity does not yet exist, as postmodernism required a reflexive antagonism toward masculinity and continues to undermine any container that could allow it to come forth. My best guess is that metamodern femininity will emerge from the well-educated center right. If it outcompetes postmodern deconstruction as a mode of gender - which is to say, if it makes women more money - it'll replace the current paradigm. But it's up to men to create the container for it, by coming back to Reality from ideology and reconstructing a genuinely jovial masculinity - cooperative, joyful, sharp, horny, noble and flexible. And above all, characterized by relational and social mastery.
