Founder/Team Micro Interview - Sofia #4 @sofia_numbers Start with a global vision, but win a niche. Like many startups, we began with a grand vision. We wanted everyone on the internet to use our Capture app. Our goal was to make every photo traceable and verified. We tested this vision across different fields, from news media to insurance, and quickly ran into harsh market realities. We learned, for example, that while a competitor like Truepic found success in the mature US insurance market, the same approach was a dead end in Taiwan due to the very conservative culture in large corporations. These lessons forced a strategic shift. Instead of serving everyone, we narrowed our focus to a specific, passionate audience: artists and photographers. This shift wasn't just about who we served, but how. We realized professional creators weren't using a phone app, which led directly to the development of desktop tools like the Capture dashboard and the lightweight Proofsnap, meeting users where they actually work. It's a good lesson: a global dream is often realized by first winning in a well-defined niche.
