I’m a bit tired of locals from Buenos Aires suggesting cards as the BEST alternative to paying here. They are wrong, but you might not care. Cards issued internationally (100% self-custodial crypto ccards, and some custodial too) use a FX rate that is way worse than just bringing cash and exchange at a FX store. Let’s put it into a test: Nov 3rd (today!) Sell USD at Official rate = 1450 I bought an empanada with crypto card @OfframpXYZ rate: 1374 Then I bought peanut butter and strawberry jam with crypto card with @gnosispay rate: 1429 (that was odd, the current rate is 1397) After that I exchanged USD cash at a neighbor “cueva” rate: 1425 And i use that cash at the coffee store that gives me 10% off for cash payment. Cash is king. And anyone telling you differently is oversimplifying it for you. Yes, dealing with cash is uncomfortable. And yes, it is riskier. So I don’t mind visitors using their card or their fancy new stablecoin QR payment (via 🧈.xyz) but let’s call things by its name. End of rant.
