A good technical narrative track will naturally reward the valuable projects that have been quietly cultivating within it, but in the short term, the bigger beneficiaries are actually the projects that have capital, technology, and market presence but are misunderstood due to high cognitive barriers. @pieverse_io is one such project:
1) Before the x402 narrative became popular, Pieverse was a project positioned as "payment infrastructure" on @BNBCHAIN. It abstracted a new concept of TimieFi (time finance), aiming to transform time itself into tradable and financializable assets.
Sounds abstract, right? It naturally makes people feel like it has a speculative concept, but the project team is actually trying to build a brand new timestamp value protocol in scenarios like AI Agents, enterprise-level payments, and creator economies. I won't elaborate further.
2) Because it’s no longer important, the explosion of the x402 track actually provided Pieverse with another narrative vehicle with stronger penetration. The team reacted quickly and soon launched the x402b protocol, aiming to create the first project to introduce a formal x402 protocol to BNBChain. I can't even complain; there are just too many fake projects on BSC masquerading as x402.
How to do it? I have analyzed before that since the native USDC is only integrated in the Base ecosystem, other chains wanting to connect to the x402 protocol under the one-time authorization standard of EIP-3009 will face an awkward situation: either wrap a version of USDC themselves or rely on a third-party bridge's Wrapped version.
The former requires maintaining an additional asset mapping layer and bears risks like auditing and security, while the latter may face issues of liquidity dispersion or price deviation, which mainly undermines the original intention of x402's "plug-and-play".
Therefore, Pieverse directly created a new stablecoin to natively integrate EIP-3009—a stablecoin pegged 1:1 to USDT. By doing this, it changed the approach to facilitate "native" integration.
This approach is clever as it transforms the technical complexity of integrating the USDC (EIP3009) version into the adoption and popularization issue of pieUSD stablecoin (the challenges are also daunting).
3) To be honest, this approach is not native and orthodox for the Base ecosystem, but it does not conflict with the large-scale adoption of the x402 protocol payment standard, because the initial stage of the x402 track is about protocol competition, which will eventually evolve into "ecosystem competition".
In the protocol competition phase, it’s naturally about technical implementation methods, compatibility, user experience, standardization level, etc., but in the ecosystem competition phase, the technical barrier becomes less important.
What needs to be compared is which stablecoin achieves higher adoption, which protocol standard wallet or multi-chain infrastructure has a higher integration level, and how high the composability of ecosystem protocols is, etc.
This is actually the strategic path Pieverse is trying to break through in the chaotic situation of BSC:
First, lock in the positioning of the x402 track, then use the pieUSD stablecoin to overtake on the curve, ultimately consolidating its position by leveraging the liquidity and development activity advantages of the BSC ecosystem.
