The good folks at @terrorisminfo just released a big study on Al Jazeera's ties to Hamas, and it reminded me of this gem: A 2023 document seized by the IDF shows that Hamas installed a dedicated secure phone line called the “Al Jazeera phone,” intended for direct coordination between Hamas’ emergency war room and Al Jazeera’s management offices in Doha. The line was intended for use in emergency situations to ensure that Hamas would be able to control coverage of its military wing’s activity, including real-time instructions regarding what to broadcast, what to conceal, and which terms to use during coverage to preserve Hamas’ desired narrative
