Five years ago today, Andrew Cuomo released a self congratulatory book.
Taxpayers helped foot the bill and he was later ordered to repay the proceeds.
He left office with ethics scandals, a damaged economy, and policies that made New York less safe. From cashless bail, Raise the Age, Less Is More, congestion pricing, and the explosion of illegal pot shops to higher costs for working families, New Yorkers paid the price.
Taxpayers have already covered more than $60 million in legal fees tied to Cuomo-era investigations and lawsuits, including sexual harassment matters, on top of direct settlements. The true costs of his policies are still uncalculated, and more than 15,000 nursing home residents died in New York during the pandemic.
Now he is back on a redemption tour.
The title that actually fits his record:
“New York in Crisis: How failed leadership led to an unsafe New York, a crumbling economy, and diminished quality of life from the actions of a disgraced governor.”
