the problem with mercenaries is that nobody roots for them. they can be useful, but they don’t inspire allegiance. mercenaries embody opportunism. once that perception sets in, it bleeds into everything like team morale, public sentiment, & even how competitors sharpen their knives. perception of mercenary culture is anti sympathetic by design which is a fundamental hurdle for zuck right. ironically more money just makes it worse.
