Re FOCIL: We all know HOW blockchains work but some of us forget WHY they exist in the first place. So, real quick refresher: Blockchains DO NOT exist to serve miners/validators/builders. Miners/validators/builders exist to serve users. The ONE and ONLY service that miners/validators/builders provide to the users is CENSORSHIP-RESISTANCE. The ONLY reason miners/validators/builders exist AT ALL is to provide censorship-resistance to the end users. Good consensus protocol design thus seeks to maximize censorship-resistance for the user, while minimizing the cost (payments to miners/validators/builders). The wellbeing of miners/validators/builders matters ONLY to the extent that end users are served with maximum censorship-resistance. FOCIL is thus a HUGE step forward for consensus protocols, as it helps eliminate freeloading miners/validators/builders who take payment (in the form of fees, MEV, and block rewards) without providing the ONE service expected of them: censorship-resistance.
