I am not Catholic. I do however know how to research. Vatican II explicitly rejects replacement theology. Nostra Aetate §4 states that the Jewish people “remain most dear to God” and affirms, citing Romans 11:28–29, that God “does not repent of the gifts He makes or of the calls He issues,” meaning Israel’s covenant is irrevocable. Lumen Gentium §16 likewise teaches that the Jews “remain most dear to God according to His design,” language that is impossible to reconcile with the claim that Israel has been rejected or de-elected. The Catechism of the Catholic Church (§839) further clarifies that Judaism is not treated like other non-Christian religions because it already responds to God’s revelation in the Old Covenant. This teaching was made explicit by John Paul II, who stated that the Old Covenant “has never been revoked,” and reaffirmed by Benedict XVI, who taught that the Church is grafted into Israel, not a replacement for it (Rom 11:17–18). In Catholic doctrine, the Church is the New Covenant community in Christ and Israel’s election endures supersessionism is therefore formally incompatible with post-Vatican II magisterial teaching. Or are those Catholic documents and teachings not valid?
