Set (or Seth) is the ancient Egyptian god of chaos, disorder, storms, and violence. He is often depicted as a man with the head of a mysterious animal, sometimes described as a "set animal" or a combination of various creatures, including a donkey or a wolf-like creature. Set is the brother of Osiris, Isis, and Nephthys, and is best known for his role in the myth where he kills his brother Osiris, thereby causing disorder in the world. Set's motivations in the myth are often attributed to jealousy and rivalry, particularly over the throne of Egypt, which Osiris held. Following Osiris' death, Set becomes the embodiment of chaos, embodying forces that disrupt order. However, Set also has a complex character and was at times associated with protecting the sun god Ra, fighting the serpent Apep in the nightly battle to ensure the sun's rebirth each day. Despite his chaotic nature, Set's role was essential to the balance of order and disorder in Egyptian mythology.
